Heading to a remote part of the territories to investigate a possible threat, the Mouse Guard scouts encounter an enemy that the Mouse Guard itself may not be able to face.

Well, at first, I have to admit I was concerned because the taint of the furry is everywhere, and I feared that this might be symptomatic of that. But thankfully, this setting isn’t like that, and the world it portrays is quite interesting thanks to its shift in perspective. A common woodlands animal that a human would think nothing of becomes a monstrous threat to a mouse. And imagine even an ancient human army boasting of a snake as their secret weapon. They’d be laughed at! But again, here, if directed by a mouse, that same snake is like a tank with poisonous fangs!
A snank, if you will. 😮
It always seem like when I discover a system I think is good you guys post a podcast of it a few months later 😛
Great game and great roleplaying all round, Billy’s Alcoholic mouse was a particularly nice touch 😛
Too bad about Gambion though 🙁
Awesome cast. Ive been unable to get my players interested into this game, so I think I may have to rewrap the setting into a game of thrones kings guard, or night’s watch. Lot of good ideas from the cast
Speaking of night watch: Have you guys ever considered playing in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld setting? If anyone can do justice to the quirky adventures on the back of a giant space-turtle, it’s the Fandible crew. 🙂
Speaking of settings the Fandible Crew would be entertaining in, I think they’d do an awesome Star Wars game, of which there’s what 4 different systems for now? 😛
Bleh! Star Wars… I had to deal with the roleplaying community on Starsider (a server in Star Wars Galaxies) for way too long to enjoy anything to do with roleplaying in the SW setting.
The Force is not strong in this one…
Were you roleplaying on that server as well and they put you off?
That I was! We used to have a saying for Starside:
“Starsider: We know drama”
So, yeah… too many people there would also use the Force to do ridiculous things. Dammit! The Force cannot summon a dragon!
And a mouse could not distinguish one human face from another six feet away.

Listening to the adventures of your intrepid mice brought to mind “On being the right size” by J.B.S.Haldane which uses them in several of it’s examples, it’s a short essay on the effects of scale in nature and quite useful as a roleplaying resource.
“You successfully cast the enlargement spell, you are now fifty feet tall.”
“Great! I stride towards the castle.”
“SNAP!!!”
Aww sad to hear that, but I can understand how the more roleplayers there are within a shared universe the more likely it is that one or more will have a negative impact on the enjoyment of others. While I never roleplayed in an MMORPG I have regularly run concurrent 5 person parties, on more than one occassion 4 parties of 5 players, and one player in particular often took the more childish route of trying to be the outlandish, powerful and ridiculous in a way that hurt other players enjoyment of the game. I call it the “perceived protagonist mentality.” It seems to be what you’re describing.
Also, as I only have a vague idea of the mouse guard world, does any magic whatsoever exist in the setting, just out of curiosity?
…… Actually, a force dragon sounds kinda awesome…..
As for Mouse Guard, there is no magic. The mice have enough to deal with when everything else on the planet wants to kill them.
… creating a dragon out of pure Force is kinda ridiculous, yes. Using the Force to control/compel some kind of native dragon-like creature to fight for you? Much more doable.
.. and, aww for no magic. I was hoping for a Summon Cheese spell. Or maybe Tenser’s Cone of RUN THE FUCK AWAY IT’S A SNAKE!
.. you know. Mouse magic. >.>
Actually controlling large animals e.g. Rancor etc is already an established force power in Star Wars Canon, and Krayt Dragons exist on Tatooine: XD

Those interested in a “mouse world” setting with magic in it should check out “Hyperborean Mice” from Kiz and Jenn Press:

Controlling animals? Awesome. Summoning them from the Ether in space? Bleeeeeeeeeeeeh!
