SOPA/PIPA

Hey Guys,

I’m not one for politics or anything of that sort, but when it comes to something that can change what I love, I feel a few words are in order. As you know may or may not know, numerous websites are performing a internet blackout, to protest  SOPA(Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). Both are bills that has been shown would cause massive damage to the very nature of the internet as we know it as well as curtail its freedom of speech. These bills would do little to stop piracy and would give power to corporations that could easily be abused. That’s what happens when use a nuke to solve a problem that should be solved with a scalpel.

Whether you are an American citizen or a international fan, this law will affect you in some way, shape, or form and I urge you to study up on these laws and educate yourself about it as soon as possible. Email/phone/write/telepathically link with your congressman and let your displeasure known.

Thanks to SMBC for the links/steps.

1) Look up your congressperson or senator, and see if he/she supports or opposes.
For SOPA: projects.propublica.org/sopa/
For PIPA: projects.propublica.org/sopa/pipa#roll_call
2) Click the appropriate picture to pull up contact information.
3) Write a handwritten letter describing why you’re unhappy. This is the best way to get their attention.
4) If you don’t have time for that, call their office and politely but firmly express your complaint, specifically mentioning their support for SOPA (house of reps) or PIPA (senate).

Thanks Fandible fans for reading my rant and I hope you are on board with preventing the abuse of the internet.

These bills are not aimed at ‘online piracy’ but rather at an American’s first amendment right to free argument(read speech) by the federal government.
