Four Roleplaying Games We Want to Get Into Our Grubby Hands!

new RPGsAs tax season comes to an end, some of us get to experience the wonders of tax refunds! Some might put their refund towards debt while others might slip it away for a rainy day. Fandible however isn’t mature enough to do something like that! Instead, we’re already planning to build our roleplaying library!

There are plenty of books to buy, but these are the four roleplaying books we are looking forward to (or hoping for)  this year!

TimeWatch

Oh, TimeWatch holds a very special place in my heart.

I had went to a con, and I wasn’t having much luck finding RP throughout the entire day. I was a bit depressed but I figured I’d sign up for the last slot of something called TimeWatch. As a fan of ‘Back to the Future’, I figured I might be able to say some funny time travel jokes as I play a time agent.

And I ended up having a blast.

Not only was TimeWatch an EXTREMELY polished idea, the group that I had signed up with was just fantastic. The developer of the game was even running the session so we all had a chance to talk with him about the game after the session.

As you might know, Fandible endorsed their Kickstarter and we’re extremely excited to hop back into TimeWatch again. The first full, laid out draft was just released a few weeks ago for Kickstarter backers, which means it’s SO CLOSE to being available everywhere. I know I can’t be the only one hoping Jesus continues our campaign!

Rotted Capes

Oh, Rotted Capes. How we have an unhealthy relationship.

I complain about some of your features, but I find myself coming back to you each time I want to get my dose of both superheroics and survival horrors. I know we should see other people, but you’re the brains I want to eat at the end of the day.

Rotted Capes is perhaps my favorite find for roleplaying games which is why I made Jesus run it for Fandible. While I’ve mentioned having some issues with some of the rules before, I can absolutely say that I have had a blast thinking of characters and scenarios in this setting. The more I read the book, the more I realize that there really is no other system out there that blends survival horror and spandex like these guys.

Paradigm Concepts are the creators of Rotted Capes. Maybe if we all hold our hands and ask nicely, we’ll get another supplement from them? Life would be pretty sweet if we got rules on how to make magical-based heroes.

End of the World: Robotic Invasion

You’ve seen the world’s most unluckiest Poker group run from zombies, Cthulu, and ants from space… and now you and I want to see them take on their next big challenge – their toaster! Yes, End of the World has been a Fandible favorite ever since its release by Fantasy Flight Games. It’s rare that I make sure I have a physical copy of a book, but I’ve made it a habit to get a copy for each unique setting book. I’m looking forward to picking up the last one at the end of the year and completing my collection!

What sort of robotic menace do you think the group will end up facing? Will Jerry accidentally hack everyone into the Matrix? Or maybe the electronics will rebel and begin their fight for world domination by deleting all of Carter’s digital pictures of Laura. Or perhaps Keven will watch in horror as his New England Patriots are nuked by Sky-Net!

All I know is that regardless of how the world ends, Princess Lando is going to look adorable in her Terminator costume.

Part Time Gods: Fate

Fandible played the original Part Time Gods around three years ago, and while we had a good time, we didn’t feel that the rules and our play style really matched up well. We ended up ditching our characters and campaign, and we’ve tried to move on. And yet… get a few beers in us and we start bringing up all the old stories our characters got themselves into.

Yes, Fandible misses Part Time Gods. The idea and setting were fantastic! And now, maybe it has a system that will mesh with us because Part Time Gods now is using the Fate Core book!

We’ve been holding off picking up this book, but know that it is definitely in our sights. Have any of you gotten a chance to check it out? If so, please leave a comment below for us! We’d love to hear your tales of woe as your Godling tries to battle Minotaurs while making sure to get home in time to finish doing their taxes.

So that’s our list! Are there any games out there that you want Fandible to pick up and try? Or maybe you want us to dust off an old came and give it another spin? Leave a comment below and let us know!

I backed Timewatch, in large part, because of the Fandible session.

I dearly hope that you return to Part Time Gods, whatever the rules system. It really felt like there was more to be had from those characters.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Kulp about a year ago – I believe he was running Time Watch. Nice guy.

I backed Part Time Gods of Fate. I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, but it is, as you can imagine, based on the Fate System; and you have multiple pools between divine and mortal abilities. It looks like it can be a fun time.

I would love for you guys to try out CthulhuTech or even Iron Claw, but I also know those two games are kind of niche things.

I’ve gotten Part time gods: Fate, and the rules seem fairly solid, inspired my own anime style hack. I don’t know how much you guys would like it, since you aren’t the biggest fan of Fate besides Atomic Robo, but if you are willing to give it a chance it seems to work well enough.

Oh, speaking of Chtullutech, there is a second edition that’s coming out, currently in free open beta. It focuses on the symbiotic PCs, rather than the mechs etc. I imagine more supplements will open up for all the weirdness in time. But if you want to do essentially call of Chtullu meets Power Rangers, this could be a lot of fun. Again, it’s still a beta draft, not a finished game.
