I was already aware of the difference between the Mister and the Doctor Spock 😉
Did you play this using the revised or the original edition of the game? The organizational issues you mention concerning character creation may well have been fixed in the revised edition that came out recently.
We were actually playing with the revised edition. I read the original and it was honestly a bit of a mess. The revised edition was a vast improvement but it wasn’t perfect. We still had a blast though and it is definitely going to be one of our long term games as a result. If the characters live that long. Wow, it is lethal as heck.
To counter the lethality you could add some kind of Drama/Hero/Style points or switch to a less deadly system all together. If I pick this up myself I may even use the setting with the Cinematic Unisystem rules from Ghosts of Albion.
Anyway, your recordings have definitely put this game on my list of potential future purchases!
Loved this log. Really, sometimes I can’t tell if you guys are RP’ing or doing a bit of improv comedy.
omg, been way too long since I listened to you guys. forgot how hilarious you are. the Irish accent was fantastic, the slandering penny dreadfuls plot was compellingly unusual, and the whole cast was just top-notch the whole while. maybe a little heavy on the endless creepy PC monologuing in this second half, but tequila makes the mind wander, ahah.
probably my favorite podcast you guys have done though i just started on nwod and thats pretty good too. atomic overmind should send you guys a cut since i went out and bought the book after listening to episode one.
the deadliness imo is because you gave the common thugs guns. my take is the combat system is set up for combat PCs to just ruin small hordes of animates and the narrator’s goal should be to present combats that are challenging enough to score a lingering wound or corrupt a character a little more.
its like warhammer in that regard. in warhammer 3e combat tuned PCs will flatten just about everything in a fair fight which is fine as long as the gm can score a lingering wound, disease, or corruption and bring them one step closer to being mindless servants of chaos.
Anyways keep up the great podcasts. if you are taking requests id love to hear some warhammer fantasy, day after ragnarok or deadlands.
@Remorhaz
I also bought the book after listening to these.
Great first session. I have the original Core Book, but no group to play with currently, so it’s really great to actually hear a full play session. I am going to tune in to Whipping Tom shortly so I can see where it goes.
It’s also really great to hear that my sessions are not the only ones that go off track. Great work bringing focum back to the game, and to the session. Love it. Thanks for posting.
