Fandible’s Top Five NPCs!

It’s been seven years here at Fandible. You’ve laughed. You’ve cried. You’ve winced as we’ve tried to understand the rules of nearly every game we’ve ever attempted. You’ve been around for the good time, the bad times, and the just weird times – and for that, we’re happy!

Some people have stayed for the stories! Some for the characters. And some have stayed because of the NPCs that have accidentally been spawned from the minds of the crew! Today, as we celebrate SEVEN years of Fandible, we’re going to look at my top FIVE favorite NPCs of Fandible.

1. Stevens and Rubia

There is no way we could have a list of favorite NPCs without Stevens and Rubia. First appearing as basic grunts in our 99 Problems Only War game, the pair of unlucky extras stumbled away from the Imperium of Man and into a plethora of Fandible games. From our Rotted Capes Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Game to Unhallowed Metropolis to almost any poor pair of saps in need of a name in any of our games, these two lovable lugs continue to be ushered to the front of the EXTRA line – with or without their blessing.

Stevens. Rubia. You’re always a welcome sight in any of our games! Maybe one day, we’ll play a game where you two are stumbling through the different Fandible dimensions, just trying to get home!

2. Intern of Chris

The Intern of Chris is a classic from way back when we were playing Warhammer. At one point, one of our characters was talking to a cloaked figure who proudly began praising Chaos… only to realize he shouldn’t be speaking so loudly in front of Imperium citizens. In his haste, he cleverly changed the word Chaos … into Chris.

From there, we created the Intern of Chris. In our mind, he was that weird intern that every office ends up getting at some point. He wears a cloak to meetings, never gets your coffee order right, and makes customers feel uncomfortable.

But hey – at least he’s really into this Chris guy, right?

3. Adele

Adele was created as the perfect victim for Unhallowed Metropolis. She was a prostitute who knew too much and had no way out. Due to a strange stirring of consciousness from Byron Clayton – along with a sizable donation from Dr. Charles Israel – the woman was saved from a possible murder and brought into… well… a life of science?

Adele’s charm, perseverance, and genuine love for Marcus has made her a welcome addition to our Unhallowed Metropolis games. While she might lack the deadliness that Moira Clayton possesses, her refusal to give up on herself or the person she loves has kept her alive… thus far.

4. The Ink Monster

One of our first ‘break-out’ stars is the Ink Monster! Started as a villain in our Congealed Happiness game in our second year of recording, the Ink Monster has slithered his way in and out of our campaigns. He has appeared in a sequel, a prequel, and also made a brief appearance in Pure Wax.

The Ink Monster is probably my favorite creation, and I really have enjoyed building up on his mystique. Where did it come from? Why is it here? What exactly IS it? Hopefully, some of these questions will be answered.

5. Joe

While the Ink Monster is one of my favorite creations, it surely isn’t Fandible’s greatest monsters. No, the greatest monster we have ever encountered is Joe. Just in case you missed it, Joe is from our Demon the Descent game. He was once just an old man who was destined to die… but death was too afraid to take him.

Joe fought three highly trained DEMONS with a butter knife. And almost won. While he was put down eventually by the group, don’t let that put your mind at ease. Joe cannot be put down. He can only be knocked down. Joe cannot be stopped, only slowed. Joe is coming.

Run.

So! That’s my list on my top five Fandible NPCs! We have seven years of backlog, so I am sure my list doesn’t match yours! So! Who is your favorite NPC from Fandible’s game? Post in the comments below.
